Mona Hatoum

Mona Hatoum is a Lebanese born Palestinian artist who mainly uses video and installation.  Her work really made an impact with me in the nature it was presented. The use of everyday objects that appear innocent or ordinary tend to be presented in a subtle and political way , carrying undertones of feminism and a sense of desolation and hopelessness in regards to world politics.
work, in brief, carries a heavy sense of brutality to it, with the viewer being susceptible to see the installations as objects of care and affection. This then creates a sinister sense of deception and shock once it is seen and/or revealed about the true nature of the pieces.
